Edo deputy governor, Philip Shaibu to be impeached

The Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday served a Notice of Impeachment to Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

The House proceedings commenced at 11.30 am Wednesday. The deputy governor is expected to respond within seven days.

A source in the government disclosed that 22 lawmakers out of the 24 have signed the impeachment notice making the eventual removal of Shaibu inevitable.

The impeachment notice is the latest in the rift between the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, who have been at loggerheads since mid-last year when Shaibu announced his intention to run for the office of the governor of the state.
