An incident in Edo State has seen Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, a federal lawmaker and husband to Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson, narrowly avoid an assassination attempt.
The attack occurred at his home in Uromi on Friday morning when armed assailants, believed to be political thugs, struck.
Details reveal that the attackers arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State license plate. Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, reported that the attackers, posing as police officers, entered the residence under the pretense of having an appointment.
However, their plans were thwarted thanks to the quick response of security personnel assigned to Okojie.
During the confrontation, two of the assailants managed to escape, while the driver and another accomplice were apprehended and are now being questioned by police in Uromi.
Initial investigations suggest that the suspects may have been directed by local leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Esan North-East area, as indicated by their confessions.
