Federal lawmaker dumps PDP for APC

Lawmaker representing the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State at the House of Representatives, Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This move was formally announced during Wednesday’s plenary session when Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read Gumi’s defection letter.

Gumi’s decision stems from ongoing disputes within the PDP in his constituency.

According to the letter, the PDP has faced internal challenges, including dual leadership in the Gummi/Bukkuyum area, which has impacted the party’s structure and ability to serve the community effectively.

Gumi expressed that the lack of party cohesion has hindered his efforts to fulfill his duties to his constituents.

Following the announcement, Speaker Abbas acknowledged Gumi’s transition, officially welcoming him to the APC.

“It is noteworthy to state here that the PDP has two chairmen in my constituency, Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency. One was unconstitutionally removed while the other decamped with me, hence the party lacks structure in my constituency, and this has made it difficult for me to provide good representation and prompt delivery of dividends of democracy to my constituents,” the letter read.
