FG propose new minimum wage

The Federal Government has now proposed a new minimum wage of N54,000.

This is following the walkout by the Organised Labour comprising of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress during the last meeting with the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage following the proposed N48,000.

“The Federal Government has now proposed the sum of N54,000,” a source told Punch.

However, it is not clear whether Labour would accept this offer.

Recall that the labour union had earlier demanded the increase in minimum wage payment to N615,000, an offer which was described as ”ridiculous” with the federal government proposing a previous increment to 48 thousand naira.

Meanwhile NLC and TUC leaders in a communique issued yesterday night, threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if the minimum wage negotiation is not concluded by May 31.
