FG proposes new minimum wage amount

The Federal Government has increased its offer of a new national minimum wage to N62,000.

The organised labour has also reduced its demand from N494,000 to N250,000.

Already the Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage has adjourned as there was no agreement at the meeting.

The organized private sector also backed the government offer of N62,000.

“After wasting our time, they finally came up with the offer of N62,000 which was backed by the private sector. Labour also reduced ours to N250,000. This is embarrassing,” the source who is part of negotiation from the labour side said.

At the end of the meeting last night, the leadership of the tripartite committee said it would forward both positions to President Bola Tinubu who is expected to study them and send a bill to the National Assembly for the final consideration of the new national minimum wage Act.

Recall that the organised labour had rejected the N60,000 proposal and went on a nationwide strike on Monday.

The action was however suspended on Tuesday after the Federal Government promised to increase the minimum wage to an amount bigger than N60,000 as they resume negotiations.
