FG to begin payment of wage awards
The Federal Government has announced that it will begin the payment of the outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears owed to federal workers.
The move follows an agreement made between the government and organized labour to ease the hardship workers faced after the removal of fuel subsidies.
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) shared this update through a statement issued in Abuja.
According to the statement, the government had earlier paid the wage award in parts covering five months.
However, there are still five months’ worth of arrears left to be settled.
The OAGF explained that the payment will be handled in instalments, with N35,000 set to be paid each month for five months.
Workers should expect the first instalment to come shortly after the April 2025 salary has been paid.
It was made clear that the wage arrears will not be combined with the April salary, but will follow immediately after.
The Office also stated that the government remains committed to carrying out all agreements concerning workers’ pay and welfare.
It added that steps are being taken to ensure that federal employees are motivated to deliver better results through consistent and fair remuneration.
