Sani Shinkafi, a former adviser to ex-Zamfara State governor Bello Matawalle, has strongly opposed calls for a state of emergency in the state.
He argued that Zamfara is currently experiencing peace, stability, and economic growth, and those pushing for emergency rule are working against the interests of the people.
He suggested that security agencies should investigate these individuals and their motives.
Shinkafi, who leads the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, stated that removing a governor, deputy, or state legislators through such a declaration is unconstitutional.
He urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss these calls, attributing them to failed politicians attempting to cause instability.
He praised Governor Dauda Lawal’s efforts in restoring security and economic progress, crediting President Tinubu and the military for their continuous fight against criminal elements in Zamfara and the broader North West region.
He pointed out that the 1999 Constitution prioritizes the security and welfare of the people and does not support suspending elected officials through emergency rule.
Shinkafi warned that if Zamfara were placed under emergency rule due to security concerns, the same logic would require declaring emergency rule nationwide, given the presence of various criminal groups across Nigeria.
He reaffirmed that President Tinubu, as a democrat, would not take such an undemocratic step.
He urged politicians to focus on rebuilding the state rather than causing distractions, calling for unity and support for Governor Lawal’s leadership in delivering good governance.
