Former Delta state first lady dies in London


Edna Ibru, the former First Lady of Delta State and Miss Nigeria 1964, has passed away in London after a short illness.

She was the wife of Olorogun Felix Ibru, the first executive Governor of Delta State.

Ibru was also the first Nigerian and African to participate in the Miss Universe competition.

Her son, Dr. Paul Ibru, confirmed the news in a statement shared with journalists in Warri, Delta State, on Saturday.

According to the statement, she passed away on January 15, 2025.

Dr. Ibru described his mother as a vibrant and caring person who was full of life until her passing.

He fondly remembered her as a mother to many and a source of joy, humour, and love.

Burial arrangements will be announced by the family at a later time.
