The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently questioning Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, the former Minister for Women Affairs, over allegations of misusing public funds, violating procurement rules, and diverting N138,413,253.89 from the ministry’s 2023 budget.
According to sources, the misappropriated funds were meant for government projects, including the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative, but were allegedly used for personal purposes.
Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:00 AM on Thursday and has been undergoing interrogation since then.
Investigators claim she was involved in financial misconduct, including diverting funds intended for women-focused programs and failing to follow proper budgeting procedures.
She is also being investigated for other fraudulent activities, such as unauthorized spending and breaches of procurement laws.
As of now, Ohanenye remains in EFCC custody while the investigation continues.
