The Rivers State House of Assembly has instructed Governor Sim Fubara to submit the 2025 budget within 48 hours.
The directive was issued during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Governor Fubara had earlier signed a ₦1.1 trillion budget into law on January 2, presenting it to a faction of lawmakers led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.
However, a recent Supreme Court ruling reinstated Martin Amaewhule and his group as the legitimate members of the Rivers Assembly, settling a long-standing dispute over the legislative leadership.
During their first session after the court ruling, the reinstated lawmakers demanded that Fubara formally present the budget, which he had titled the “Budget of Inclusive Growth and Development.”
In a related development, the Supreme Court also directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to withhold federal allocations to Rivers State until compliance with its rulings.
Additionally, the court nullified last year’s local government elections in the state, prompting Fubara to announce fresh council polls.
The governor has directed the heads of local government administration to take charge of the 23 councils until new elections are held.
He also ordered outgoing local government chairmen to hand over power by Monday, March 3, 2025.
