The emergence of candidates in the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election was marked by controversy and parallel declarations.
It began with Dennis Idahosa being announced as the winner by Governor Hope Uzodimma, who headed the APC election committee for Edo State.
However, this declaration was disputed by a group who dismissed Uzodimma’s authority, labelling his role as ceremonial.
Senator Monday Okpebholo was then declared the winner of a parallel primary election by the APC State Returning Officer, Ogbuaja Stanley Uzoamaka.
Amidst the confusion, Anamero Dekeri emerged as a third candidate claiming victory.
Dekeri, a member of the House of Representatives, claimed to have met the legal requirements and garnered the highest valid votes.
The process was marred by disruptions and violence, with thugs attacking the collation venue, injuring several people including journalists, and damaging equipment.
