The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has responded to reports regarding the death of a student, Fejiro Sharon Oteri, on April 8, 2025.
Contrary to claims that the university’s health centre was closed at night and failed to attend to her, FUOYE clarified that the incident occurred during the day around 11:30 a.m.
Dr. Musibau Olawale, the Chief Medical Director, stated that Oteri was promptly attended to by medical staff upon arrival.
Despite resuscitation efforts, she remained unresponsive and was subsequently transported to a tertiary referral center, accompanied by medical personnel.
The university stated that its health centre operates 24/7, including weekends, and is equipped with necessary facilities and a constant power supply.
They expressed condolences to Oteri’s family and reaffirmed their commitment to student welfare.
