Former Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has gotten a seven-day ultimatum to resign as National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The ultimatum was issued by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, a prominent member and Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum in Jos, Plateau State.
Zazzaga’s demand is based on concerns that Ganduje’s position is not in line with the party’s rules and zoning agreements.
Zazzaga explained that Ganduje, who comes from the North-West, should not be in charge since the party had decided that the leadership role should go to someone from the North-Central zone, specifically Nasarawa State.
He stated that Ganduje’s continued leadership goes against Article 31.5 of the APC Constitution and harms the internal democracy the party values. Many party members are unhappy about this situation, which has caused divisions within the group.
Zazzaga warned that if Ganduje does not resign within the week, he may take legal action.
He has also reached out to key party leaders, including President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, indicating that this issue is being taken seriously at the highest levels of the APC.
The letter read in part:
“In the alternative, I humbly request His Excellency Abdullahi Ganduje PhD to step aside as National Chairman of the party and allow for the appointment of a Fact-finding committee to examine the matter in line with Article 21.3 of the APC Constitution 2022.
“Take notice that failure to adhere to the options stated above within 7 days of your receipt of this letter, leaves me with no option but to invoke the full amplitude of the law. This I shall do without reverting back to you.”
