An off-campus student of Federal University Birnin Kebbi and a local cattle rearer were attacked by unknown gunmen at Istijaba Hostel in Unguwar Jaji, located in Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. when the gunmen broke into the hostel while the students were asleep.
They kidnapped Augustine Madubiya, an economics student at the university.
During the attack, a Fulani cattle rearer who was tending to his cows nearby was shot multiple times.
He was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
The university’s public relations officer, Jamilu Muhammad, confirmed the incident.
Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar also confirmed the attack and said the Divisional Police Officer of Kalgo has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and that efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted student.
