The House of Representatives is set to pass some key bills, including a proposal to create three new states—Oke-Ogun, Ijebu, and Ife-Ijesa.
Sponsored by Hon. Oluwole Oke, the bill seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution to support the establishment of these states.
Another bill aims to regulate online gaming by repealing the National Lottery Act, while a separate proposal seeks to establish lower courts in the Federal Capital Territory for handling civil and criminal cases.
Lawmakers will also review an amendment to the National Agricultural Development Fund Act to improve financing for farmers.
A bill proposing the legal framework for independent candidacy in elections is also set for discussion.
In addition, the House will deliberate on a bill to establish a National Honours Award Commission to oversee the process of recognizing distinguished Nigerians.
Motions under review include:
1. Investigating financial irregularities in contractor payments by the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant-General’s Office.
2. Examining budget allocations to research institutes since 2010 to assess their impact on national development.
3. Reviewing a proposal to align the South West Development Commission Bill with federal policies.
4. Addressing financial difficulties faced by Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contractors and clearing outstanding debts.
5. Calling for stricter penalties for banks over unauthorized transactions and deductions.
The House will also hold committee meetings on public petitions, business regulations, and regional development.
