Crossdresser Idris Okunenye, also known as Bobrisky, reportedly smuggled eight ATM cards into the Kirikiri prison, using them to withdraw N35 million from Point of Sale (POS) vendors in the area.
This money was allegedly used to bribe prison officials, allowing Bobrisky to enjoy a comfortable stay in an apartment outside the prison.
According to The Nations Newspaper, the Baale of Kirikiri, Chief Babalola Shabi, made these claims during a recent meeting with the Lagos Police Command.
Chief Shabi, who helped uncover the bribery scheme, revealed that the property where Bobrisky stayed had been identified and demolished.
Several Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officials were suspended for their involvement in the scandal. Shabi also mentioned that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) assisted in locating the transaction codes from the POS vendors.
The Baale’s account contradicts a National Assembly probe, which had claimed Bobrisky served his jail time in the facility but received special treatment.
According to Shabi, it was the prison officials who arranged for the funds, which they sourced from local POS vendors.
The EFCC was able to trace these transactions and uncover the corruption.
Shabi stated his commitment to truth and justice, stating that he had been involved in the investigation from the start, helping both the DSS and EFCC.
He confirmed that Bobrisky had indeed stayed outside the prison and that the house had been demolished.
The officials who facilitated this arrangement are still suspended.
