In less than a week after his appointment as Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Peter Opara has been redeployed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.
Opara was initially appointed as the FCT’s police chief on September 14, 2024, by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
In a swift move, the IGP also redeployed CP Tunji Disu from Rivers State and CP Abaniwonda Olufemi from Delta State, with the new assignments taking immediate effect.
CP Disu is now the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, while CP Olufemi takes over Rivers State Command, and CP Opara assumes duties in Delta State.
Additionally, four more police commissioners have been reassigned to state commands across the country.
CP Danladi Nda is now responsible for Abia State, CP Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale will oversee Lagos State, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya has been posted to Ebonyi State, and CP Festus Eribo will manage Akwa Ibom State Command.
These changes are part of the broader effort by the IGP to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for improved efficiency, with approval from the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The newly assigned police commissioners have been urged to focus on security reforms and adopt innovative strategies to tackle crime in their areas of jurisdiction.
