The tragic death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, on September 12, 2023, has ignited a series of controversies and public disputes within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
A significant focal point has been the escalating feud between Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo and musician Naira Marley, the founder of Marlian Music, under whose label Mohbad was formerly signed.
Following Mohbad’s untimely demise, Iyabo Ojo emerged as a vocal advocate for justice, expressing concerns over the circumstances surrounding the young artist’s death.
She publicly accused Naira Marley of contributing to Mohbad’s distress through alleged bullying and harassment, insinuating that such actions may have played a role in the singer’s tragic end.
In response, Naira Marley refuted these allegations and initiated a defamation lawsuit against Ojo, seeking ₦500 million in damages.
Ojo countered with her own legal action, demanding ₦1 billion and stating that Marley had deliberately misled the public regarding her statements.
In the early hours of February 3, 2025, Naira Marley took to Instagram to share screenshots of past conversations between himself and Iyabo Ojo, dating back to 2021 and 2022.
These messages revealed a previously cordial relationship, with Ojo inviting Marley to various events, including her late mother’s remembrance ceremony, and seeking his support for her adopted son’s musical aspirations.
The release of these private conversations has sparked widespread discussion on social media platforms.
Iyabo Ojo in response to this has maintained her commitment to seeking justice for Mohbad, boldly stating that her actions are driven by a desire for accountability within the industry.
She has also clarified that her advocacy is not a personal attack against Naira Marley but a broader call for systemic change.
