There was some confusion earlier today after a Supreme Court ruling regarding the leadership of the Labour Party.
Many thought the court had removed Julius Abure from his position as National Chairman.
However, the Labour Party has now made it clear: Abure remains the National Chairman.
A five-man panel of Supreme Court judges ruled that the Court of Appeal didn’t have the right to declare who should be the Labour Party’s chairman.
The judges explained that leadership decisions within political parties are internal matters and should not be decided by the courts.
The Supreme Court threw out the appeal brought by former senator Nenadi Usman and another party member, saying it wasn’t the court’s place to interfere in such issues.
In response, Labour Party’s spokesperson, Obiora Ifoh, released a statement confirming that Abure is still in charge.
He explained that the ruling only emphasised that political parties have the right to choose their leaders, not the courts.
So despite earlier reports, Julius Abure is still officially the Labour Party’s National Chairman.
