The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has been impeached.
The impeachment was carried out during an emergency session held earlier today by members of the Assembly.
Details surrounding the impeachment remain unclear at this time, but sources indicate it may be linked to allegations of corruption.
The removal comes barely a month after Obasa was accused of allegedly spending N17 billion to fix a gate that leads to the assembly.
Obasa’s deputy, Honourable Mojisola Lasbat Miranda representative of Apapa I, has been sworn in as a new Speaker.
Mrs Miranda was also a former chief whip of the house.
Mojeed Fatai is now the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, armed security personnel have taken over the assembly complex and environs.
