The Labour Party in Lagos has called on the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services to investigate and take action against those responsible for an attack on its secretariat.
This demand was made by Lagos LP Chairperson, Mrs. Dayo Ekong, during a press conference on Tuesday.
She revealed that the attack occurred while the party’s principal officers were in Abuja attending the National Executive Council meeting.
Ekong urged President Bola Tinubu, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and the State Security Director to intervene in the matter.
She condemned the attackers, describing them as morally bankrupt, and insisted that they should be investigated, prosecuted, and punished for what she called a heinous crime.
The attack, Ekong alleged, was led by a man named Rasheed Bamishe, who unlawfully entered the party’s secretariat in Ikeja with armed thugs.
The attackers used dangerous weapons, charms, and fetish objects to loot and vandalise the offices, stealing valuable items, including large sums of money and sensitive documents.
During the attack, several staff members were physically assaulted and injured, and they are now receiving medical treatment.
Ekong also accused certain influential members of the Lagos State Labour Party of supporting the attack, though she did not reveal their identities.
She claimed the motive behind the assault was to cause harm to the party’s leadership and staff.
Ekong vowed that the party would use lawful means to ensure the perpetrators and their backers face justice, regardless of their status.
The party also reaffirmed that under her leadership and the national leadership of Mr. Julius Abure, there are no vacancies in any party organ, following a final Supreme Court ruling.
She stated that the LP’s values would not tolerate such violent acts.
The party’s Secretary, Sam Okpala, also expressed support for the call to punish the attackers to prevent future incidents.
