Security personnel foiled an attempted break-in at the Maiduguri home of Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place around 5:30 a.m. at his residence in the New GRA area, located off Bama Road in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
According to a security source, the suspect, identified as Ibrahim, tried to breach the house’s security by climbing over a fortified perimeter wall.
He attempted to gain entry through the back fence by crossing the Gadabul River bank.
However, he did not realize the presence of a surveillance system in place.
The security team quickly apprehended Ibrahim but shot him in the leg when he attempted to flee.
He was subsequently transported to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital under tight security for medical attention around 8:15 a.m.
The suspect, a resident of either Meri or Maduganari, has a wife and children. Authorities have yet to determine his motive for the attempted break-in, and further investigation is expected to shed light on the situation.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Command, ASP Kenneth Daso, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of the report.
