Military Airstrike Targeting Bandits Mistakenly Kills Family

A military airstrike meant to attack bandits mistakenly killed six family members in Yauni Community, Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.

The victims included three children, a man, and two women. The attack left the community in shock and fear.

Security sources said the airstrike happened after security forces had a gun battle with bandits trying to attack voters during local elections in Zakka village.

Two police officers and a member of the Community Watch Corps (CWC) were killed in the fight. Another injured officer later died.

After the clash, a military jet was called in for support but accidentally bombed Yauni village instead, killing the family and injuring another woman.

So far, military and government officials have not commented on the incident.

This is not the first time such a mistake has happened.

In July 2022, two people were killed in a similar airstrike in Kunkunni village, also in Safana.

Earlier this year, another airstrike in Zamfara State mistakenly killed 16 people, including vigilantes and residents.
