Minimum Wage: Details of Organized Labour Friday’s meeting with FG emerge

The Organised Labour’s meeting with the the government team at the Tripartite Committee on Friday ended in a deadlock again.

The Labour  walked out of the meeting over the inability of the government to make new offer beyond N60,000.

A source at the meeting told Vanguard that negotiations hit the brick wall when the government and the organized private sector remained adamant on the N60,000 offer.

Meanwhile, the organized labour has scheduled to address the press by 4 pm today.

The press conference might be to officially announce the commencement of a nationwide strike by Monday, June 3.

They had threatened that if the Federal Government failed to come up with a reasonable amount by today, then an industrial action is imminent.

Recall that the Federal Government declared that it would not shift grounds from the proposed N60,000 minimum wage offer.

In an address on May 29, Minister of State for Labour, Nkiruka Onyejeocha said:

“In light of the current economic conditions, we have made a concessionary move from N57,000 to N60,000.

“This is the path that this government has chosen to pursue, and we will not deviate or stray from the course.”
