Natasha Osawaru removed from her position at Edo House of Assembly

The Edo State House of Assembly on Monday removed Natasha Osawaru Irobosa from her position as Minority Leader following a change in the balance of power within the House.

The decision came after four lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC), giving the APC majority control.

Osawaru, who is known for her relationship with popular musician 2Baba, was not the only PDP lawmaker affected.

Charity Aiguobarueghian lost her role as Majority Leader, while Yekini Idaiye was taken off the position of Chief Whip.

Despite these removals, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku and Deputy Speaker Maria Edeko, both PDP members, kept their roles.

The shift followed a letter from APC’s acting chairman, Jarret Tenebe, which was addressed to the House.

With the new majority, the APC quickly filled the open leadership roles.

Jonathan Aigbokhan, representing Esan West, was named the new Majority Leader. Addeh Emakhu Isibor from Esan North-East I became Deputy Leader, and Lecky Hussein Mustapha from Etsako West I was picked as the new Chief Whip.

During the announcement, the Speaker explained that the PDP would now have to submit new names for its principal officers in the House.

Although Agbebaku and Edeko stayed in their positions for now, there is uncertainty about whether that will remain the case as the leadership structure continues to shift.
