Nigeria’s power system has collapsed for the second time in less than 24 hours, causing widespread blackouts.
The first grid collapse happened on Monday evening, disrupting domestic and business activities across the country.
Despite large amounts of money spent to improve the power sector, reliable electricity remains a major problem in Nigeria.
On Tuesday morning, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) reported another collapse at 09:17 hrs, resulting in a total loss of power in its area. The company said it was working with partners to quickly restore electricity.
“Dear Valued Customer, Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 09:17 hrs, which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.
“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored,” the electricity firm said.
Ikeja Electric, also wrote in a tweet:
It read, “Dear esteemed customer, Please be informed that we experienced another system outage today, 15/10/2024, @09:17hrs, affecting supply within our network.
“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”
Earlier, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) had managed to bring back power to some areas after the first outage on Monday night.
Areas like Deidei, Suleja, Lugbe, and Kuje had their electricity restored. Customers were informed that the problems were due to the failure of the national grid, and the AEDC promised to work with others to stabilize the situation and restore power.
