Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The move was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon after a meeting held at the Government House in Asaba.
The decision came after several discussions with key political figures.
He defected alongside his deputy and commissioners.
Oborevwori, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP, defected as part of a move that may shape political directions in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Top members of the APC welcomed him into the party during the private gathering.
The Governor’s media aide explained that the change was made with the future of Delta State in mind.
Obervwori’s predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, who was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 elections, is also set to defect from the PDP to the APC.
Meanwhile, more PDP governors are also planning to join the APC. See names here.
