Nigerian Police Force Summons Senator Sunday Karimi

The Nigeria Police Force has summoned Senator Sunday Karimi for questioning over allegations that Russia’s KGB, the former Soviet intelligence agency, has infiltrated the National Assembly, posing a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

The controversy began when Senator Karimi reportedly shared a report titled “KGB Agent Group Warns Senate: A Call for Vigilance Amidst Threats to Democracy” in the official WhatsApp group of the 10th Senate on February 23, 2025.

This report, originally published by an online media outlet called The Reporters, sparked concerns within the National Assembly.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is currently under suspension, formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on March 5, 2025, urging authorities to investigate the claims.

Following this, the police issued an invitation letter to Senator Karimi, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede, head of the IGP Monitoring Unit.

The letter, dated March 17, 2025, requests that Senator Karimi appear for questioning at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on March 24, 2025, to provide more details about the report’s origin and sources.
