Nigerians react as over 15 year old Naira notes begin to resurface following CBN announcement [photos]

Following the announcement of plans by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to redesign the naira notes, a bunch of old printed notes have begun to resurface.

Recall that the CBN Governor stated that the new policy would help to fight counterfeiting while experts have suggested that it will mop up currency being hoarded by unscrupulous characters.

A twitter user identified as @AbdulGidadoo took to the platform to share a photo of a 500 naira note which was printed 15 years ago in 2007.

Others took to the comments to share testimony of older notes suddenly returning to circulation. Though the development seems alien, Nigerians have begun to go through the cash available to them and are finding that most of them were printed about a year or two prior with the older printed ones rare to find.

This is however beginning to change with the CBN set to redesign the naira thereby forcing people to return old notes which haven’t been in circulation for one reason or another.
