The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a staggering N20 billion libel lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The suit, submitted by Kanu’s lead counsel, Chief Aloy Ejimakor, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, challenges Adejobi’s public statements describing IPOB as a “proscribed terrorist organisation.”
According to Kanu, the statements—published on January 25 in a press release about police operations in Imo State—have severely defamed him and misrepresented his character.
Kanu alleges the defamatory remarks have portrayed him as a violent leader associated with terrorism, undermining his reputation both locally and internationally.
The IPOB leader also claims the statement has prejudiced ongoing legal battles concerning IPOB’s classification as a terrorist group.
As part of the reliefs sought, Kanu demands an unreserved public apology from Adejobi, retraction of the statements, and publication of the apology in prominent national newspapers, including The Sun, Daily Trust, and Vanguard.
He also requests a perpetual injunction to prevent any future defamatory remarks and seeks N20 billion in damages.
