Mudashiru Obasa has officially reclaimed his position as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following a sudden leadership reshuffle.
His reinstatement came after Mojisola Meranda, who briefly held the position, resigned during a plenary session on Monday.
Obasa’s return follows his impeachment in January, when lawmakers accused him of poor leadership, abuse of office, and intimidation of colleagues.
Over 90% of the legislators supported his removal.
He, however, challenged the process, arguing that due procedures were not followed. He also dismissed allegations of corruption, stating that financial misconduct was not possible under his leadership.
Mojisola Meranda, after resigning as Speaker, was immediately nominated and sworn in as Deputy Speaker.
Meanwhile, the Chief Whip of the Assembly, Hon. Setonji David, also stepped down and returned to his previous role.
However, Hon. Kehinde Joseph nominated him for the position of Deputy Whip, with Hon. Surajudeen Tijani supporting the nomination.
In another development, the Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Ganiyu Okanlawon, resigned to allow Hon. David to assume the Deputy Whip position.
Speaking after his reinstatement, Obasa expressed gratitude to the lawmakers and called for unity among members of the House.
Mudashiru Obasa also called for an indefinite adjournment of the plenary session.
