Ogun NNPP Gov candidate calls on Tinubu to address food insecurity
Ogun State NNPP gov candidate has called on President Bola Tinubu to address food insecurity to prevent more suicide and hunger cases
The governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Ogun State in the last general election, Olufemi Oguntoyinbo, has called on President Bola Tinubu-led administration to address food insecurity in Nigeria to prevent increasing hunger and suicide cases.
The candidate gave the advise on the sidelines of an award ceremony organised by the Oyo State Canteen Workers’ Union, held at the Recreation Club in Ibadan, earlier today.
Oguntoyinbo added that the effect of the killing and mass destruction of farmlands by northern herders during the previous administration are now affecting the country’s economy and also with the current high rate of inflation.
He said:
“The biting effects of previous killings, attacks, and mass destruction of farmlands by herders in the North and some parts of the South West, which were rampant during the past government of Buhari, are now more pronounced.
We raised the alarm then, and some stakeholders also sounded the bell of warning, but the insecurity situation, especially in most farm settlements in the North East and some parts of the South, was left unattended to by relevant security agencies.
Now, we are paying dearly for it. With the current high inflationary rate, occasioned by the wobbling economy in Nigeria, the prices of food commodities have been further pushed up beyond the reach of the common man.
The productivity of large-scale farmers has been negatively affected because a sizeable number of farmers in the agricultural value chain fled farms due to attacks by deadly bandits and hoodlums.
There is hardly a day one is not disturbed by the sad news of Nigerians committing suicide. This is another reason President Tinubu should re-assess his economic blueprint and map out strategies to ensure effective security in all parts of the country and also checkmate the high inflationary rate. The Federal Government under his watch must also create an enabling socio-economic atmosphere capable of attracting investors to pave the way for employment generation.”
