A Magistrate Court in Ibadan has ordered the detention of three individuals linked to the deadly stampede at Bashorun Islamic High School last week.
The court remanded Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the school principal; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the Agidigbo FM proprietor; and Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi directed that the trio be held at the Agodi Correctional Centre.
The charges stem from allegations under Section 324 of the Criminal Code following the tragic event, which occurred during a children’s funfair at the school.
They were arraigned on Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Court 1, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on a four-count charge of conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities.
Relatives and supporters gathered outside the court as the case unfolded under tight security.
The suspects will remain in the custodial centre pending further advice from the state prosecutor.
