The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has raised an alarm over an alleged plot to assassinate Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The state’s ruling party also accused the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun of deploying special forces to carry out the plan.
Speaking at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo on Wednesday, PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi claimed that the crisis in the state was deliberately created to prevent Saturday’s local government election.
He urged the international community to intervene, alleging that security forces were being used to endanger the governor’s life.
Bisi accused the APC of orchestrating the situation since losing power in Osun in 2022.
He alleged that police special forces, under Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, escorted certain individuals into local government offices in what he described as a coup against the state government.
Bisi said:
“Mr. Egbetokun’s deliberate deployment of Special Forces under him to escort some miscreants into the local government councils in the state was nothing but a blatant coup.
“One out of the many mapped-out plans is to assassinate the Governor of our dear state, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, whose instruction to restore peace and order as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State was flagrantly violated by Mr. Egbetokun.
“The whole world must warn and prevail on Mr Kayode Egbetokun to desist from being an enabler of orchestrated attempts on the life of our Governor. These plans, we want to emphasize have been on the cards of the APC in Osun State since the good people of Osun State voted them out of office in 2022”.
