Gabonese footballer Aaron Boupendza tragically passed away on Wednesday at the age of 28 after falling from the 11th floor of his building in China, where he was playing for Zhejiang FC.
His death was confirmed by the Gabon Football Federation (Fegafoot), who described him as a talented striker who had left his mark on the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the fall are still unclear, an investigation is underway. Boupendza, born in Moanda, had a successful career, playing for various clubs, including Bordeaux in France, Hatayspor in Turkey, Al Arabi in Qatar, and others, before moving to China in January.
Tributes poured in from the Gabonese football community, including from the country’s president-elect, Brice Oligui Nguema.
