Jos Islamic cleric dies at 80


Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque in Plateau State, has died.

His son, Bashir Lawal Adam, confirmed that the 80-year-old cleric passed away on Thursday in a private hospital in Jos following a brief illness.

Sheikh Abubakar is survived by three wives, 14 children, and many grandchildren.

Sani Mudi, the Plateau State Publicity Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), expressed the community’s sorrow, calling his death a great loss for the Muslim community in the state.

Mudi noted that Sheikh Adam was a distinguished scholar, Islamic jurist, and respected leader.

He was appointed Deputy Chief Imam in 2009 and became Chief Imam in 2015.

Sheikh Abubakar’s funeral prayers and burial are scheduled for Friday morning.
