Popular Nigerian University has reportedly dismisses 13 Staffs for Sexual Misconduct prior to the school convocation.
Ekiti State University (EKSU) will graduate 16,446 students during its 29th convocation ceremony on March 29, 2025.
The university will also honour prominent figures, including Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji, with honorary doctorate degrees.
At a press conference on Monday, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ayodele, announced that 13 staff members had been dismissed for offences such as sexual misconduct and abandonment of duty.
He stated that his administration maintains strict discipline for both staff and students.
“In our commitment to upholding discipline, 3 staff members were dismissed for abandoning their duties, 1 for sexual misconduct, while 9 others had their appointments terminated. Additionally, 21 staff members received warnings, and 3 were barred from holding leadership positions for three years,” Ayodele said.
Of the 16,446 graduates from the 2022/23 and 2023/24 academic sessions, 200 will receive first-class honours, 5,406 will graduate with second-class upper division, 9,076 will earn second-class lower division, 1,295 will receive third-class degrees, and 4 will graduate with a pass. The university will also award 162 PhDs, 242 master’s degrees, and 61 postgraduate diplomas.
Professor Ayodele praised Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for increasing the university’s monthly subvention from ₦260 million to ₦410 million.
This increase, he said, has helped the university settle outstanding salaries and allowances, improving staff morale and ensuring a stable academic calendar.
During the convocation, EKSU will confer honorary doctorate degrees on Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, FIRS Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Industry, Dr. Mansur Muhtar.
The convocation ceremony will culminate on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
