The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Victor Oko-Jumbo, conducted a screening and approval session for a commissioner nominee appointed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara within the Government House.
During Monday’s screening, Dagogo Iboroma, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, expressed his commitment to upholding the rule of law and serving the state diligently, regardless of his assigned ministry.
This session marked the pro Fubara assembly’s first meeting since new principal officers were elected. Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, along with legislators supporting Governor Fubara, presided over the proceedings.
Governor Fubara had previously issued an executive order relocating the assembly’s sitting to the Admin Block of the Government House, Port Harcourt, citing safety concerns with the original assembly complex. This order was formalized in an official Gazette under Executive Order of the Rivers State Government 001-2023.
Key figures such as principal officers and former assembly members attended the screening.
Before the screening, Speaker Oko-Jumbo praised Governor Fubara for providing a temporary chamber in the government house auditorium, following a recent fire incident at the main assembly complex.
During the session, a motion by leader Sokari Goodboy proposed adopting the auditorium as the new chamber. This motion allowed the speaker to read Governor Fubara’s request to screen and confirm 60-year-old Dagogo Iboroma as a cabinet commissioner.
The tussle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike continues as the presidency has spoken on the matter.
