PSC Appoints New Police Commissioners, DIGs, and ACPs


The Police Service Commission has appointed two new Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu states.

Ademola Johnson, who previously served as the Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police, has been assigned to Oyo State.

Mamman Bitrus Giwa, formerly the Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Kaduna and Imo states, will now oversee the Enugu State Command.

The PSC also approved the appointment of six new Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs).

The newly appointed DIGs include Sadiq Abubakar, Commandant of the Police Academy, Kano; Benjamin Okolo, head of the Information Communication Technology Department at Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Williams Adebowale, Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos. Others are Bzigu Bali, in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Enugu; Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, overseeing Zone 14, Katsina; and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, leading Zone 16, Yenagoa.

In addition to these appointments, the commission has promoted Kanayo Uzuegbu, the Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Uzuegbu has held various leadership roles, including Area Commander in Owerri and Deputy Commissioner for Finance and Administration in Edo State.

Furthermore, the commission has promoted eight Chief Superintendents of Police to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.

Those promoted include Abdullahi Kamba Usman, Sani Abdu, Ifeanyi Owo, Vincent Orole, Elisha Atikinkpan, Margaret Okonkwo, Alhasan Aliyu Guga, and Imo Owinizi Ezekiel. These officers underwent written examinations and oral interviews before their promotions were confirmed.

PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, called on the newly appointed officers to work closely with the Inspector General of Police to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force and improve security across the country.
