Rapper Tory Lanez sentenced to 10 years in Prison for Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Canadian Rapper Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in Prison for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, after a party.

Lanez was sentenced on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 following a jury finding him guilty of three felony charges, earlier in December 2022.

The charges included: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

The shooting incident, which occurred on July 12, 2020, sparked a public outcry and a social media backlash as Lanez, had initially denied any involvement and accused Megan of lying about the incident.

Megan who had attempted to keep the situation silent had been the subject of ridicule and shaming by people loyal to the rapper, eventually forcing her hand and causing her to tell her story.

Megan, who suffered bullet wounds in both feet and had to undergo surgery, revealed Lanez as the shooter in an Instagram Live video in August 2020, saying that she was “tired of the lies” and that she wanted to “set the record straight”.

Testimonies from Megan, Lanez, Lanez’s bodyguard and a friend who was also in the SUV where the shooting took place featured in the trial which began in October 2022.

The prosecution made a case for Lanez being angered that Megan attempted to leave the party without him and shot her for it. Lanez’s lawyers had argued that it was in self defence.

The rapper was found eventually found guilt and had been facing about 22 years in jail but has now been sentenced to 10 years, bringing an end to the saga.
