The Spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi has clarified that the actual monthly salary for lawmakers is N600,000, contrary to speculations of N900,000.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, Rotimi addressed media reports suggesting discrepancies in members’ salaries, including claims of receiving N936,979 for July.
Rotimi said that the correct monthly salary is N600,000, taking into account deductions for advances like housing, which are paid at the beginning of the tenure.
He explained that a member who recently showcased his salary on a TV programme was an exception, as he assumed office through a court decision long after the initial on-boarding.
Akin said the House remains committed to the resolution passed on July 18, mandating a 50 percent salary reduction for six months to alleviate hardship.
Rotimi acknowledged a delay in implementing this resolution for July due to necessary administrative processes and coordination with financial institutions.
He assured that instructions for salary adjustments have been issued and will be enforced going forward.
