The trial of the five suspects linked to the Rivers House of Assembly burning on Dec. 29, 2023, was adjourned in a Federal High Court, Abuja, until March 19.
This delay resulted from Mr. Lukman Fagbemi, SAN, representing two defendants, revealing that the prosecution filed a counter affidavit with serious allegations.
Fagbemi contested the charge’s competence and the court’s territorial jurisdiction, requiring more time to assess and respond.
Despite the Inspector-General of Police’s counter affidavit, the judge noted its absence in the court file and scheduled the next trial continuation for March 19.
The five defendants accused of terrorism and murder, remain in custody since their Jan. 25 arraignment.
