The whereabouts of suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, have been revealed following his sudden departure from Port Harcourt.
According to The Street Journal, Fubara along with his family, have relocated to the Bayelsa State Government House due to the unrest in Rivers.
This comes after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state to address worsening political tensions.
The suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly was announced on Tuesday, March 18.
The president’s decision, which also imposed a six-month emergency rule, was said to be necessary to restore peace and functionality to the troubled state.
The crisis in Rivers reportedly stems from a long-standing feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Their disagreements have disrupted governance, leading to violent clashes, legislative stagnation, and various legal battles.
Amid the growing tension, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri offered temporary refuge to Fubara and his family.
Sources said the relocation took place on Wednesday, March 19, with the family quietly leaving the Rivers State Government House under reduced security escort.
Though some security operatives, including Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), remain stationed at the Government House, the area was said to be relatively calm after Fubara’s exit.
In a bid to stabilize the state, President Tinubu appointed Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, as the interim administrator of Rivers State.
Ibas is now in charge of managing governance during the emergency rule and is expected to address the ongoing political turmoil.
