Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appointed Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
This announcement was made on Friday, January 10 by Dotun Oyelade, the state’s Commissioner for Information.
The selection came after consultations with the Oyomesi, the group of kingmakers in Oyo, who used traditional divination methods to recommend Owoade.
The appointment marks the conclusion of the legal disputes that arose after the death of the previous Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, in April 2022.
The decision aims to bring an end to months of controversies surrounding the succession process.
Local government officials have called for unity and support for the new king, hoping his leadership will bring peace and prosperity to the region.
The selection process had been delayed, with some kingmakers initially opposing the decision, arguing that the matter should be settled in court.
However, the appointment has been finalized, and the people of Oyo are encouraged to rally behind the new Alaafin.
