Singer Simi attacks Skitmakers Nons Miraj, Ashmusy over video depicting African mothers
Simi, has taken a stand against the misrepresentation of African mothers in a skit by Ashmusy, Nons Miraj and others.
Nigerian singer, Simi, has voiced her strong criticism against popular Skitmakers, including Nons Miraj and Ashmusy, for their recent skit that portrayed African moms in what she deemed a negative light.
The skit featured them dressed as African mothers in traditional attire, visiting a restaurant.
In the video, the Skitmakers enacted exaggerated behaviors, including messy eating, taking photos, and collecting utensils, intended to mimic typical African mom stereotypes.
Simi took to Twitter, now known as X, to express her disapproval, describing the video as a “mess” and expressing her anger at the way they depicted African moms.
Simi emphasized that she does not know any mothers who behave in such a manner and urged the Skitmakers to improve the quality and accuracy of their comedy.
She tweeted,
That video about African moms where they looked a mess and were eating like dogs made me mad af. I don’t know anybody’s mom that acts like that. Y’all get your jokes together.
While some agreed with Simi’s criticism, others defended the Skitmakers, claiming that the skit was exaggerated and meant for entertainment.
