Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared Thursday, 22nd and Friday, 23rd of February 2024 as public holidays in the State.
According to Prince Ebenezer, Chief press secretary to the governor, the holiday is in honour of the former Governor of the State, Rotimi Akeredolu.
The two work-free days will allow the people of the State to participate in the burial activities of the former Governor.
On Wednesday, February 21, there will be Ajabue (Traditional Rites) in Owo from 9 am to 4 pm, followed by a Special Court Session at Court 1, Ondo State High Court Headquarters, Hospital Road, Akure, at 10 am.
Later in the day, there will be a Lying in State and Commendation Service at Akure Township Stadium at 1 pm, and an Evening of Tributes at St Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo, from 4 pm to 7 pm.
On Thursday, February 22 (Public holiday), there will be a Service of Songs at St Andrews Cathedral, Imola Street, Owo, at 4 pm, followed by a Wake-Keep at Maranatha Villa, Owo, starting at 8 pm.
The day will conclude with a Candlelight Procession & World Gyration by the Kegites Club from 8 pm till Dawn.
On Friday, February 23 (Public holiday), the schedule includes a Funeral Service at St Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo, at 10 am, with interment immediately following at the burial site in Owo (Strictly for immediate family).
A reception will be held at Mydas Hotel and Resort, Ikare Road, Owo, by 1 pm.
On Saturday, February 24, 2024, there will be an Akeredolu Memorial Friendly football match at Akure Township Stadium, Akure, at 3 pm.
Finally, on Sunday, February 25, 2024, a Thanksgiving Service will take place at St Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo, at 10 am.
