Supreme Court reserves ruling on Atiku’s Appeal against Tinubu

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved its ruling in the appeal filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

This appeal aims to introduce fresh evidence and challenge the ruling made by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), which had previously upheld Bola Tinubu as the winner of the last presidential election.

The seven-member panel of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice John Okoro, made this announcement after legal representatives for the involved parties had presented their arguments and final submissions.

During the proceedings, the court also considered arguments put forth by the appellants regarding their motion to provide new evidence.

Chris Uche (SAN), the lawyer representing the appellants, urged the court to grant the motion, entertain their appeal, and address their requests, ultimately disqualifying Tinubu.

On the other side, the lawyers representing the respondents, including Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN (representing the Independent National Electoral Commission), Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN (representing Tinubu), and Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN (representing the All Progressives Congress), urged the court to dismiss both the motion and the appeal, asserting that they lacked merit.

Following a brief adjournment, the court has reconvened to proceed with the hearing of the appeal by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The final decision of the Supreme Court in these matters will be eagerly awaited.
