Thugs set third LG secretariat ablaze as Rivers political crisis worsens

The political crisis in Rivers State has taken another turn after Emohua Local Government Council Secretariat was engulfed in flames.

The secretariat was allegedly set ablaze by thugs suspected to be supporters of former Governor Nyesom Wike, who have rejected the outcome of the recent local government elections.

This incident follows the burning of two other LGA secretariats in Eleme and Ikwerre.

Reports revealed that armed thugs stormed the secretariat buildings after the swearing-in of new council chairmen by Governor Siminialayi Fubara.

Reports are also emerging of widespread looting in several council offices across Rivers State.

The unrest has escalated into looting, with office equipment and materials being carted away by angry mobs in multiple local government areas.

These attacks follow the withdrawal of police from LGA premises, after the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered security personnel to vacate the council gates.
