President Bola Tinubu has announced eleven new appointments for the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), a body created to manage electricity transmission operations separately from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Dr. Adesegun Olugbade will serve as the board chairman, while Engineer Abdu Mohammed Bello has been chosen as the Managing Director.
The newly appointed executive directors include Engineer Nafisatu Asabe Ali for Systems Operation, Engineer Shehu Abba-Aliyu for Systems Planning, Dr. Edmund Eje for Market Operations, and Mr. Babajide Ibironke for Finance and Corporate Services.
For non-executive roles, Engineer Lamu Audu will represent Generation, Mrs. Folake Soetan will be in charge of Distribution, and Mr. Tajudeen Giwa-Osagie will serve as a Market Expert. Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz has been appointed for Transmission, while Alhaji Mahmuda Mamman, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Power, has also been named to the board.
These appointments are part of efforts to implement the Electricity Act of 2023, which requires the restructuring of TCN into a Transmission System Provider and an Independent System Operator.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) officially established NISO on April 30, 2024.
The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) hold equal ownership shares in the new organization.
According to the presidency, the selection process was carried out through the Independent Board Nomination Committee (IBNC) in collaboration with Phillips Consulting Limited.
The National Council on Privatisation (NCP) will complete the recruitment process for NISO.
