The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to issue a directive to security agencies to better protect herders across the country.
In a statement released on Friday by MACBAN’s Secretary-General, Bello Gotomo, the group expressed concern over the treatment of pastoralist communities.
They urged the federal government to put an end to what they described as discrimination, ethnic profiling, and unjust treatment of herders.
Gotomo specifically condemned the alleged unlawful arrest and mistreatment of some herdsmen at the Opere Market in Kabba Local Government Area.
He also asked for urgent intervention from the federal government, the National Human Rights Commission, and the international community to address the issue.
MACBAN’s statement comes amid ongoing accusations against armed herdsmen of being involved in violence, kidnapping, and farmland destruction in Ondo State and other parts of the country.
